As a software-based business analysis tool, the ECC is also fitted for the use in didactics. Fields like business analytics, organization, competence management or strategic management can make practical use of the various possibilities of the ECC.
Pilot projects, with the University of Applied Science in Wuerzburg-Schweinfurt or with the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Karlsruhe show great added value. The ECC is met with positive resonances from students and professors alike: Originally developed for businesses and consulting, the ECC is now requested frequently from higher education institutions and universities.
Pilot project at the Wuerzburg-Schweinfurt University
For Prof. Dr. Arnd Gottschalk (Business Administration Faculty), Vice-Dean of the university in Wuerzburg-Schweinfurt, the ECC is a tool for practical application of his theoretical teaching content: With the students of his course “Organizational Development” he was the first to use the ECC in didactics. His students used the ECC to work with a case study, to evaluate and interpret their findings to refine their knowledge in methodical analysis in company diagnosis. Especially the practical manageability, the holistic approach as well as the contemporary, online-based design has been evaluated positively by the students.
Here a few impressions of the ECC project team of the FHWS, master’s course “Organizational Development”
Project goal
- Development, piloting and evaluation of a scenario on how to put the ECC to use in didactics
Project content
- Familiarization on the topics Organization Diagnostics, Business Analysis, Strategic Management in small and medium sized businesses and Business Consultancy
- Get to know the ECC tool and the ECC certification process
- Research of case studies and business cases that are fit for the use with the ECC
- Development and implementation of a pilot project with the focus on organizational development
- Documentation of the pilot project
Challenges for the project team
The project team consisted of students that were interested in strategic business consultancy and in developing training measures for consultants. First methodical experiences in consultancy, workshop design or the motivation to familiarize themselves with such topics were required.
That’s what students and professors say about the ECC
“The ECC project was really interesting and I was able to learn a lot from it. The challenge was, to incorporate into completely new fields and to find a way to make the ECC interesting to other students. Therefore it was required to study the features of the tool, which was interesting enough, and then subsequently come up with a business situation to the ECC could be applied to.”

„The project, through which the ECC should be integrated in our teachings, was very practical and super interesting. It was fun to work with tool, it is versatile, easy to use and brings valuable insights. Especially satisfying for me was to see the results ECC in the lesson, we designed ourselves. Thanks to Dr. Ortiz for the great collaboration.

“We successfully use the ECC in our economics course at the University of Applied Science in Wuerzburg-Schweinfurt. Our students use the online tool of the ECC to work with case studies what helps them gain a profound methodical knowledge of company diagnosis. Especially the practical handling of the tool is convincing.”
